Daryl Hill is a Marine Corps Veteran and US Naval Academy Graduate.

Unfortunately, PTSD and suicide are two of the most commonly associated words with the US military veteran community. They are problems that have plagued us since the beginning of the Global War on Terror.

But many people have misconceptions about both of these phenomena. This is why Daryl decided to create his latest two projects: The Truth About PTSD and The War on Suicide.

Each of these projects takes an in depth look at the human psyche and the fact that neither of these are exclusively related to military service.

In this conversation, Dary enlightens us as to what he's learned...

When we have problems or obstacles in front of us, anxiety is a natural thing.

But many of us allow anxiety to paralyze us into non-action.

Here's the thing, the longer you wait to meet your problems head on, the more anxiety you'll feel and the more it will affect the rest of your life.

Those voices. They come up whenever you're trying to do anything important, and whenever you're trying to change your life.

In many ways, you can be your own worst enemy and your own greatest critic. But you need to overcome that if you want to become who you want to be.

This episode will deliver some tools I've used to overcome my own negativity. They're free, they're expedient, but they aren't easy.

Let me know what you think.

Growing up, I never had much money. As I went off into adulthood, I did so without a deep education in financial matters...

And that has caused me many problems.

In this episode, I discuss things I've done to increase my financial IQ. The biggest aspect of this is reading and research.

Here is a list of books that I've learned from:

Books I recommend on investing (I do make a small commission from Amazon if you buy from these links):

The Millionaire Teacher by Andrew Haram https://amzn.to/2LgGQWO

Money: Master the Game by Tony Robbins https://amzn.to/2XC5TW4

The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham https://amzn.to/2JH5qN8

Tomorrow is Independence Day. The day we celebrate the birth of a country that has since become a beacon of hope for it's people, and the rest of the world throughout it's history.

That is not to say that we are perfect. We were born imperfect. But through the sacrifices of many brave souls, we have made countless efforts to right ourselves so that all of our citizens can enjoy the freedom of being American.

In life, things happen. Hardly anything ever really goes according to plan.

In fact, when you're doing something important, that's exactly when an obstacle is probably going to pop up.

It's easy to get distracted from your path, or to quit altogether. So how do you stay on track for what you want?

Remind yourself of who you are every day!

At the end of the day, grudges don't hurt the person you're holding a grudge against. They hurt you. They keep you from being the person you're supposed to be and the person whom you want to be.

One of the most self-destructive things in life is procrastination. When you put things off, it doesn't just keep you from doing an important task. It keeps you from being present in your life.

That, in turn, takes a little bit away from everything else you're trying to do with your life.

In this episode, I talk about how you can keep yourself from procrastinating by getting your most important tasks done.

Anything difficult in life that's worth doing will always have hidden obstacles. Projects will take more time and cost more money than you thought they would. Accomplishments will take longer to achieve.

That's all part of the game.

But one thing we can do to avoid a lot of needless obstacles is to gain advice from people who've been there before, whether in person or via media.

This is easier now than ever.

It's 6 months into 2019 and most people have let their goals go by the wayside.

In this episode, I discuss a method I'm using to stay on top of my goals and focus on what needs to be done to get them accomplished.

May 16, 2019

Too many people focus on results. Success isn't about results at all. It's about what you do to get those results.

May 10, 2019

One of the biggest problems people have is that they expect instant success. Success doesn't come from just hitting home runs. It comes from doing the work, day in day out.

I am a complete financial idiot. Seriously.

Throughout my life, it's always seemed like I never had enough.

Well, in 2019, the year that I turn 40, I've decided to change all that.

So I've committed myself to learning everything I can about personal finance.

In this episode, I take you through what I've learned and how I'm prepping myself for retirement.

I also give out some advice to the young military service members who listen to the show about how they can be financially set once they reach my age.

Note: As I state above, I am an idiot. So nothing I say in this episode should be considered financial advice. If you really want to learn about money you should read:

1) Tony Robbins, Money Master the Game

2) Andrew Hallam, The Millionaire Teacher

3) Benjamin Graham, The Intelligent Investor

When life isn't going well, it's easy to place the blame on luck or on the world around you. The problem with this is that it traps you in a world where nothing is possible.

In this episode, we discuss the importance of gratitude and understanding the opportunities you have in front of you to finding true success.

In this episode I discuss what I would do if I lost it all again. This is a near and dear subject to me because 7 years ago, I actually lost everything and found myself living out of my car. My hope is that where ever you are in your life, you'll take something from this episode that will help you to get out of a tough situation.

Achieving goals isn't the product of constantly swinging for the fences. Rather, it's constant and steady progress that gets us to where we want to be.

Our Guest:

Ryan Michler is the founder and creator of the Order of Man Podcast. He is leading a movement to create better men who are stepping more fully into their roles as men.

About this Episode

Like many boys in our society, I never had a dad while I was growing up. Though my mother did absolutely everything she could for my sister and myself, not having a male mentor in my life definitely had an impact.

There was a lot that I had to figure out for myself, and it really wasn't until I joined the Marine Corps that I learned the value of responsibility and leadership.

In our society, the value of masculinity is increasingly being called into question. Boys are growing into manhood without ever really having to face actual challenges, and society is paying the price for it.

Ryan Michler has led the fight to uphold the values of masculinity, and he's continued that fight with his Legacy event. This is a three day challenge where fathers and sons learn new skills, forge deeper bonds, and create the framework to grow and find success as men.

We often hear about things like survivors' guilt and imposter syndrome in the veteran community, but rarely do we explore why we experience them or where they come from.

To tackle this issue, I've brought on Andrew Merrell, LMFT. Andrew is a therapist who works with men in the public eye who are struggling with their identities under the pressures of prestige and fame.

Andrew's perspective on this is valuable because he deals with men every day who do not feel like they deserve what they have. For veterans transitioning into the civilian world after experiencing the death of friends, this is a familiar feeling.

Many veterans enter their civilian lives with the feeling that they do not belong. For some, this can be a feeling of guilt due to the fact that they lost friends in combat. For others, it can feel as if they are impersonating someone else by trying to fit into a new identity.

As Andrew mentions, these are two separate phenomena, but both have an impact.

Mike Kollin is an elite dating and relationship coach that specializes in communication between men and women. He is also the author of Crack the Female Code and Get the Girl, Keep the Girl.

According to Mike, men and women often have trouble communicating because their brains are wired differently. While men are mostly left-brain thinkers, women think more with their right-brains. This can lead to errors in communication and complete breakdowns in relationships.

Mike's ideas are eye-opening, particularly for us men who can't quite figure out how women are thinking.

Toxic masculinity is a term that's been thrown around a lot over the past few years, generally in very liberal circles.

For some reason, there is an idea out there that exhibiting male attributes is a bad thing. Mike and I decided to tackle this issue and have a discussion about whether or not this term is a myth.

When you're young, a little money seems like it could go a long way. But if you're not careful, you can find yourself painted into a financial corner by the time you get out of the military.

In the age of the social media influencer, so many people are focused on becoming famous. In their quests for fame, many of them aren't telling the truth about their lives.

This episode covers the cost of lying and why you should tell the truth at all times.
