The holidays are a joyous time for many people. Thanksgiving and Christmas bring about family gatherings, parties, and get togethers. But those who are depressed can often feel more alone than ever around the holidays.

I'm not an expert on depression by any means, but I have been very depressed before. I can tell you that dealing with it means that you have to realize something: you're the only one who can get yourself out of it.

Depression involves retreating inward. The consequence of this is feeling like you're the only one in your world. Getting out of it entails pushing outward, even when you don't want to.

This can involve helping others in some small way, or it can involve becoming part of a group.

As I said, I don't have all of the answers, but I do hope that this episode helps you to get through this holiday season and to find some joy for yourself.
