Thirteen years ago, I had a young Marine in my fire team named J. Manuel.  At the time J. was a quiet kid who didn't have much to say, but he was an excellent Marine, especially while we were running security missions up the Euphrates River in Iraq.  Well that quiet kid became a lawyer and a scyfy author and he's on the podcast to talk about his new book From Filth and Mud.

We talk about his experience in transitioning out of the Marine Corps, dealing with law school, and everything he went through to make his dream of writing a scyfy novel a reality.

All of us have 24 hours in the day, but some of us use them more wisely than others.  At one time, I would spend most of my day watching the news and then fill my nights with things like Game of Thrones.  Don't get me wrong, I do believe in being informed, but much of the news is filled with useless stuff based on someone else's agenda.  Do a quick healthy scan of the headlines for five minutes a day, and you'll know almost everything you need to know. If something is important enough for you to stop what you're doing and watch, you'll eventually know about it and it won't make a bit of difference.  Similarly, it's fine to unwind with a little TV, but limit it to one hour a day.  Focus on what's important to you and don't let the world dictate what's important.

Veterans have not had it easy over the last decade, but that does not make our community special. What makes us special is how we thrive and overcome our trials and tribulations. Ronin Veteran Network CEO and Marine Corps veteran Kameron Delany comes on to talk about what he sees as the major difficulties in the veteran community that hold veterans back.

CEO of Ronin Veterans Network, Kameron DeLany served with Marine unit 2nd Btn. 5th Marines and 3rd Btn. 5th Marines. Post service, he moved in Private Security Contracting where he spent the better part of 3 1/2 years in the Middle East and Central Africa. During this time he realized the importance of camaraderie and the significant impact it had on his life and those of his brothers. Upon returning back stateside and starting his career as a firefighter, he began Ronin Veterans Network as a way to help his fellow vets rebuild the much needed camaraderie they once had in the military. Now, Ronin Veterans Network helps organize vets in chapters and they participate in charity drives, workout training groups, outdoor trips, and other rewarding events.

Our greatest barrier to success in this life doesn't come from the world, it comes from ourselves.  In this podcast, I take you through some of the demons and mental blocks that exist in my own head and how I'm working to defeat them.  I also give you some tools that I use in my own life to push forward and around my own doubts.

The hardest periods in most peoples' lives are usually times of transition. We see this very often in the veteran community, where thousands of veterans make the transition from military to civilian life every year. On this podcast I host two special guests, Randy and Jeff from Alphacast Media, and we discuss the Peter Principle - a theory the might explain why some of these transitions go so bad. The moral of the story is that to move forward, you need to put the work in to build your mind, increase your perspective, and grow.

In the quest for success, we find ourselves in many battles and skirmishes. But we always have to ask ourselves, is this battle going to lead me to my goal. This podcast examines this question with the help of Hannibal and Me by Andreas Kluth.  We examine life goals, relationships, conflict, and ambitions.  The final question for you is, what is your vision?

A discussion of Steven Pressfield's book The War of Art and the ways in which we can win the hardest battles we fight every day: the battles against ourselves.

A lot of us in today's society like to compare ourselves with the Spartans.  This is particularly true in both fitness and military circles. But, in my humble opinion, the real lessons come from our differences. This episode explores lessons we can learn from the Spartans with the aide of Steven Pressfield's novel Gates of Fire.

An important factor in success is eliminating the unnecessary to focus on what's important. The more we fill our lives with non productive luxury, the more we trap ourselves from moving forward.

Today's episode discusses persistence, and the idea that life is not an event but a journey. Many people know Chesty Puller as being the greatest marine of all time, but few of us think of Chesty as someone who was defeated often in life at the start of his career, or that his career almost never happened. This episode takes us through his quest to become a Marine Corps Officer.

This episode begins our three part series on fear, and we begin with fear of death and it's impact on the way we live our lives.  We take lessons from EB Sledge's book With the Old Breed and how he dealt with his own fear of death.
